چکیده

We present the algebraic framework for the quantization of the classical bosonic charge algebra of maximally extended (N = 16) supergravity in two dimensions, thereby taking the first steps towards an exact quantization of this model. At the core of our construction is the Yangian algebra Y (e8) whose RTT presentation we discuss in detail. The full symmetry algebra is a centrally extended twisted version of the Yangian double DY (e8)c. We show that there exists only one special value of the central charge for which the quantum algebra admits an ideal by which the algebra can be divided so as to consistently reproduce the classical coset structure E8(8)/SO(16) in the limit ~→0. ∗Research supported in part by EC under TMR contract ERBFMRX-CT96-0012. †New address after April 1, 1999: Haus 5, Am Mühlenberg, 14476 Golm, Germany. ‡Unité Mixte de Recherche du Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique et de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure.

We review the current status of the construction of unitary representations of Uduality groups of supergravity theories in five, four and three dimensions. We focus mainly on the maximal N = 8 supergravity theories and on the N = 2 MaxwellEinstein supergravity (MESGT) theories defined by Jordan algebras of degree three in five dimensions and their descendants in four and three dimensions. Realizations of Exceptional U-duality Groups as Conformal and Quasi-conformal Groups and Their Minimal Unitary Representations

We review the novel quasiconformal realizations of exceptional U-duality groups whose ”quantization” lead directly to their minimal unitary irreducible representations. The group E8(8) can be realized as a quasiconformal group in the 57 dimensional charge-entropy space of BPS black hole solutions of maximal N = 8 supergravity in four dimensions and leaves invariant ”lightlike separations” with ...

Compact and Noncompact Gauged Maximal Supergravities in Three Dimensions

We present the maximally supersymmetric three-dimensional gauged supergravities. Owing to the special properties of three dimensions — especially the on-shell duality between vector and scalar fields, and the purely topological character of (super)gravity — they exhibit an even richer structure than the gauged supergravities in higher dimensions. The allowed gauge groups are subgroups of the gl...

Heterotic effective action and duality symmetries revisited

The dimensional reduction of heterotic supergravity with gauge fields truncated to the Cartan subalgebra exhibits a continuous O(d, d+ 16;R) global symmetry, related to the O(d, d+16;Z) T-duality of heterotic strings on a d-torus. The O(d, d+16;R) symmetry is not present, however, if the supergravity reduction is done including the full set of E8×E8 or SO(32) gauge fields. We analyze which dual...

We present a novel global E7(7) symmetry in five-dimensional maximal supergravity as well as an E8(8) symmetry in d=4. These symmetry groups which are known to be present after reduction to d=4 and d=3, respectively, appear as conformal extensions of the respective well-known hidden-symmetry groups. A global scaling symmetry of the Lagrangian is the key to enhancement of E6(6) to E7(7) in d=5 a...
